AGARTALA | Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has condemned the alleged assault on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Ashabari in Sepahijala district and directed authorities to take swift and stringent action against those involved. The incident reportedly occurred a day before the Chief Minister’s statement, when a group of people allegedly attacked BSF personnel in the area.

Saha said violence against security personnel was unacceptable and must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. He directed the concerned authorities to act promptly and stressed that security personnel must be treated with respect and protected while carrying out their duties. A BSF official told India Today that the personnel had gone to the spot following a tip-off about suspected smugglers when they were allegedly attacked by villagers.

The official said the BSF had lodged a complaint at Kalamchoura Police Station and an FIR had been registered. The charges include attempt to murder BSF personnel, snatching of their weapons and obstructing government officials from discharging their duties. The official further said the accused had been identified but were absconding. He alleged that they were involved in smuggling activities and had been accompanied by associates. “We will take strict action against them,” the official said. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
