Hailakandi: A team of Algapur Police led by the DySP (Headquarters), Hailakandi, apprehended two persons in connection with a theft at Uttar Mohanpur Sarbajanin Kalibari Mandir in Mohanpur Part-4 and recovered several stolen articles during the operation.

The accused have been identified as Atiqur Rahman Laskar (16), son of Abdul Gofur Laskar of Sibuttar, Hailakandi, and Anwar Hussain Mazumdar (22), son of Islam Uddin Mazumdar of Ujankupa, Hailakandi.

Police recovered brass metal plates, lamp stands, brass pots, two ceiling fans, electrical equipment, and other items allegedly stolen from the temple on May 8, 2026.

According to police sources, the recovery was made during an operation carried out based on investigation inputs related to the theft incident at the temple premises.

The case has been registered at Algapur Police Station as Case No. 26/2026 under Sections 305(d) and 331(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation into the matter is underway, police said.
