Silchar: A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at a rented house in Das Colony, Silchar, in a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across the locality. The accused, identified as Mrityunjay Das, was arrested by police a few hours after the incident.

According to preliminary information, the victim, Champa Das, was allegedly killed following a prolonged family dispute. Police suspect that the crime took place inside the couple’s rented residence before the accused fled the scene.

The couple’s 18-year-old son later returned home and found his mother’s body. He immediately informed neighbours and relatives, who then alerted the police.

A police team reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The accused was subsequently traced and taken into custody.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. Further details are awaited.
