Amit Shah Assures To Protect Manipur Territory

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, while meeting the 18-member team of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) at his official residence in New Delhi late on Monday night, assured the centre’s stand to safeguard Manipur’s territorial integrity and unity while resolving the NSCN (IM)-centre  peace process or the Naga peace talks as popularly known.

Shah, neverthelrss, declined to issue a written statement on the issue which has disheartened the members of COCOMI

Minister of State for Home Kishan Reddy, BJP General Secretary BL Santosh , Union Home Secretary Ajaykumar Bhalla, Joint Secretary
(Northeast) Satyendra Garg were also present during the the talks held with COCOMI. The late night meeting started on Monday night at 10 pm and lasted till to 11.15 pm.

The COCOMI team was led by the convenor Sunil Karam where a a memorandum was submitted to Shah, highlighting the demand for Manipur’s integrity and unity and the Naga issue should not breach Manipurs interest in any way.

The COCOMI informed from New Delhi that the Home Minister has assured that the Naga peace talks would not affect Manipur’s territorial integrity and administrative set up. If any changes on Naga issue come up, COCOMI leaders, Manipur Government and representatives of political parties would be consulted further, stated Shah.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh, Education Minister Th Radheshyam Singh and two BJP MLAs – Th Satyabrata and L Rameshor.

In order to discuss the response of Amit Shah, a public meeting will be convened on 29th November in Imphal, where a resolutions will be taken on the current issue and campaign. The statement signed by the committee’s assistant coordinator (Media) Jeetendra Ningomba appealed to all concerned to attend the public meeting and till then COCOMI would continue the mass public movement to ‘save’ Manipur.

Chief Minister had appealed to the people to participate in the festivity and the State Government will convene the winter session of State Assembly by December 20.
