Assam University take active part to mark World Environment Day

The theme for this year ‘ecosystem restoration’ has a special focus on creating a good relationship with nature

To mark world environmental day Assam University organized a brief program maintaining covid protocol. A webinar was organised which was attended by noted environmentalists. The webinar was followed by a plantation program. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dilip Ch. Nath initiated the plantation by planting fruit bearing & other plants. Prof Nath explained the need for trees for humans & urged all to find alternatives to ease the stress on the forest ecosystem.

This year, the  South Asian country, Pakistan will be hosting the World Environment Day 2021 on 5 June. The theme for this year ‘ecosystem restoration’ has a special focus on creating a good relationship with nature. The event 2021 will also mark the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021–2030.

In the next 10 years, the United Nations with the support of countries, partners, and people urge to focus on preventing and reversing the loss of degraded natural ecosystems to fight the impacts of climate change.

The E P Odum School of Environmental Science and Assam University, Silchar jointly celebrated World Environment Day on June 5  (9.45 am to 11.30 am) through a  virtual meet where Prof. Parimal Ch. Bhattacharjee, renowned Wildlife Conservationist, as guest speaker graced the occasion. Prof. Biman Kr. Dutta, Prof. Ashesh Kr. Das and Prof. Abhik Gupta formerly of the Ecology & Environmental Science department, AUS were present at this event.

 Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. Dilip Ch. Nath will preside over the function. Two events (i) photography contest on the theme ‘Beauty and Grandeur of Environment’, (ii) Slogan writing on the theme ‘Nature Conservation’ have been undertaken for the University community including their family members which closed on 4 June 2021, 12pm

The plantation program on the campus will be carried out over next few days.
