Around 82 girl students from various colleges of Dima Hasao Assam received the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award at District Library Auditorium, Haflong today. Among the five were ceremoniously distributed by the distinguished guests present during the function.

Chief Guest, Debolal Gorlosa, CEM, NCHAC distributed scooter along with Guest of Honour B.B Hagjer, MLA, Ranu Langthasa, Chairperson, NCHAC, Executive Members of NCAHAC i/c for Higher Education and Secondary Education Nandita Gorlosa and Lalremsiama Darnei respectively and other dignitaries

The recipients were awarded a scooter for securing first division marks in their higher secondary examinations in the year 2020-21 from Dima Hasao district.

During the ceremony, CEM Gorlosa congratulated all the meritorious students and encouraged them with motivational words. Handing over the certificates to the students, he said that this is only the beginning of their bright future and encouraged them to work harder in order to achieve success and bring glory to the district. Speaking about the importance of determination and dedication, he said that the local people of Dima Hasao should be focused in order to crack the civil services under UPSC and APSC, and that under his tenure as CEM he has been encouraging meritorious students with every possible help required such as financially assisting for coaching etc

It is to be noted that CEM has himself initiated to sponsor coaching classes for bright but financially weak aspiring students for UPSC and APSC. There are 4 such candidates undergoing coaching in Delhi preparing for UPSC and 15 candidates for APSC in Guwahati.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony MLA B B Hagjer,  said that the year 2020 was very crucial for everybody with difficult times starting with the beginning of the year, due to Covid 19 pandemic. Stating that the objective behind launching this scheme is to make the travel of girls to their colleges easier. With the changing time, he urged that the system of education and its approach has to a great extend changed and more is expected in next 15 to 20 years, therefore it is necessary for people of this district also to be prepared to accept the changes.

Urging this to be Wheels of Empowerment, other speakers like Chairperson Ranu Langthasa, EMs Nandita Gorlosa, Lalremsiama Darnei, in their encouraging speech said to each and every girl student to study hard, so that next year the government could provide more number of scooters in Dima Hasao. They also congratulated the parents, teachers and others associated with the success of the students.

DC Paul Baruah who is also the chairman of the award programme committee welcomed all the dignitaries present and briefed about the award at the beginning of the function, while vote of thanks was delivered by Principal of Haflong Government College Dr. Mizanur Rehman.

Among the other dignitaries present during the ceremony was principal secretaries of NCHAC, Mukut Kemprai and L.Z. Nampui, Addl. SP. M. Gogoi, ADC Deepak Jidung, Asst Commissioner Ibon Teron, DIPRO, Purabi Phonglo, IS & Addl. Director Education Biren Singh Engti and retired Professor Ramayan Tiwari.
