A delegation of the Dima Hasao Press Club met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Diphu on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum seeking better welfare measures and basic facilities for journalists working in the hill district.

The delegation drew attention to the difficulties faced by media professionals in Dima Hasao, particularly the infrastructural and logistical challenges involved in reporting from remote areas.

The journalists urged the state government to introduce welfare schemes and extend basic facilities to accredited media persons. They also sought the construction of a dedicated press building in Haflong to provide space for press conferences, meetings, training programmes and other media-related activities.

The delegation further requested special consideration for the families of long-serving journalists and called for the revival of organised exposure tours for media professionals. Such tours, they said, had earlier helped reporters gain a broader understanding of Assam’s cultural and socio-economic landscape.

The memorandum also underlined the role of the media in accurate reporting, highlighting public concerns and strengthening communication between the government and citizens.

The Dima Hasao Press Club representatives thanked Sarma for meeting them and requested his intervention for early consideration of their demands.
