Dima Hasao | Popularisation of the Pumpkin Variety “Arjuna”

To Popularise the Pumpkin Variety “Arjuna” under Horticulture, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dima Hasao organized a Field Day on Frontline Demonstration (FLD) recently at Boro Wapu.

FLD is a mandated activity of Krishi Vigyan Kendra with an objective to establish Production Potential of technologies in Farmers Filed under the supervision of KVK Scientist. The FLD was conducted at seven locations namely Boro Wapu, Kalachand, Deswali Basti, Mahur, Lodhi, Samparidisa  and Retzawl from mid-September to December. An average yield of 120q/ha was obtained in Arjuna variety which was quite higher as compared to 80q/ha yield in local check variety. Arjuna is a high yielding variety suitable for harvesting both immature and mature fruit with a shelf life of 4-6 weeks.

The programme was attended by few farmers from the neighbouring villages, Sainjalee Johori (ADO, Mahur), KVK staff and few members from Keshav Smarak Nyas. During the programme, Rashmita Saikia (Senior Scientist & Head (i/c)) gave a few words about KVK activities and requested farmers to step forward and participate in such KVK activities.

 Parkey Gogoi Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) encouraged the farmers to take up Arjuna F1 Pumpkin Variety while discussing the yield potential and quality of the variety.

The programme was concluded with the harvesting of Pumpkins and a speech by the farmer Jasmini Langthasa , who had taken up the demonstration, expressing that she was satisfied with the performance of the Pumpkin Variety and requested her fellow farmers to take up this variety.
