Women vendors and members of Ima Keithel, Manipur’s premier women’s market, staged a strong protest to voice their deep anguish over the ongoing unrest in the state, raising urgent concerns regarding the safety, security, and survival of its indigenous population.
Key Demands & Allegations
- Threats to Indigenous Security: The protesting women alleged that the ongoing security crisis is being exacerbated by the actions and inaction of both the Central and State Governments, alongside the activities of armed Kuki groups, posing a direct threat to the future of Manipur’s indigenous communities.
- Questions on Leadership: The demonstrators explicitly questioned the role and responsibilities of leader Nemcha Kipgen within the state administration.
- Call for Chief Minister’s Accountability: Holding the government accountable for its failure to restore law and order, the protesters called upon Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to take direct responsibility.
