Lush acreages of agricultural land now lie illegally transformed into brick fields, fuelling a construction boom in the Karbi Anglong (east) district and elsewhere in the proximity.

The land, once the granary of this tribal district, has now gone beyond any agricultural productivity. Churning out lung-poisoning coal smoke from the stacks, the owners and operators of the brick kilns/fields were never checked by the Pollution Control Authorities.

The District is in a precarious condition as far as the supply of potable and utility water goes to the population of the headquarter township of Diphu without which it will be a subject of mass displacement turning it into a Ghost Town.

The lean flow of the Dipu Rivulet, originating from the sands of the Dhansiri Reserve Forest, was also exploited ruthlessly with the Forest Department turning a blind eye towards this sacrilege.

The concerned scribes of the various news and print media complained about this matter to the District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong district, who in turn ordered an inquiry into it deputing an Additional District Commissioner.

All hell broke loose and there was a bolt from the blue as the Inquiry officer started summoning the defaulting operators and owners and of course, the officers of the Forests and the Pollution Control Board the inquiry is in full swing now. The final axe is expected very soon.

Diphu Press Club has expressed satisfaction and thanked the District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong Madhumita Bhagabati, for her quick action into the massive irregularity dished out by the dubious vandals.
