Major General GAV Reddy, handed over the reins of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) to Major General Ranjit Singh, on 18 November 2020, who would be the Sixth incumbent in Srikona Garrison, Silchar.

Assam Rifles (East) looks after Tripura, Mizoram, South Assam and West Manipur and is involved in multi ferrous roles like counter insurgency operations in West Manipur, effective border management in Mizoram and civic action projects in the entire region to win over the hearts and minds of people. Assam Rifles are the ‘Force to Reckon With’ and are a professional, credible and people friendly force, which contributes immensely towards ensuring security and improving the lives of people in these States.

Major General Ranjit Singh, has vast operational experience in counter insurgency operations and most difficult terrains across the country. He commanded 7th Battalion The Madras Regiment in Tinsukia,  Binaguri and 56 Mountain Brigade in Dras / Kargil – which was famous for the 1999 Kargil War. He was awarded the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal for his service as a Brigade Commander. He has served earlier in Mokokchung, Tinsukia & Rangiya and has been handpicked for this prestigious appointment.

The Inspector General has a pleasant and unassuming demeanor, combined with a razor sharp intellect and vision. Assam Rifles under his able leadership and guidance is likely to contribute substantially towards ushering in peace, prosperity and stability in the North East region.
