The Poumai Naga Union felicitated Chief Minister N. Biren Singh with a felicitation programme being held at Sanyi Dahrii Memorial Sports Complex, Khabung Karong in Senapati District on Wednesday. The Chief Minister, accompanied by Cabinet Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Cabinet Minister Th. Basanta Singh, 23-Mayang Imphal AC MLA K Robindro and 47-Karong A/C MLA J.Kumo Sha were accorded a warm traditional welcome by the community on arrival at the venue.

Addressing the gathering, N. Biren Singh expressed his gratitude for the hospitality, trust, and love shown by the people and prayed to God for the well-being of the community.

The Chief Minister said his political vision is based on humanity and development and that he will work for the welfare and upliftment of the poor and downtrodden and to usher development in the State. He said the present government is for the welfare of the people and based purely on development.

He said in the last five years, the government was able to bring much change in the State with the support and love of the public, and that the Central leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed pleasure in witnessing peace in the State.

The Chief Minister also highlighted developmental works being undertaken and already undertaken in the area, and assured to complete the Sanyi Dahrii Memorial Sports Complex at the earliest. He said an Eklavya Model Residential School is under construction at Liyai Khunou, transit accommodation for doctors and teachers is almost complete at Paomata, upgradation of Paomata High School has been completed, 33 KV sub-station is already sanctioned and construction is to start soon, 50 bedded girls hostel at Liyai Khullen underway, among others.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the construction of roads under PMGSY. Water supply schemes for the area have been included under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he added.

Further in his speech, N. Biren said that the government had introduced the Go to Hills and Go to Village schemes to penetrate and reach every nook and corner of the State in the previous term. The new government has introduced a Prabhari for each sub-division to look after the necessities and requirements in the districts, he added.

N Biren said that a proposal for the development of an alternate highway that will be connected to NH 102 via Saikul has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transports.

Local MLA J Kumo Sha said the present Chief Minister is one with a vision and works without differentiating between hills and valley. He further urged the public to support the government’s War on Drugs and further called for the entire Poumai community to pledge to become a drug free community.

Cultural items and folk songs also marked the felicitation programme. Public leaders, CSO leaders, Church leaders and the general public of the area also attended the function.
