In a message, on the occasion of World Wetlands Day on February 2, Loktak Development Authority (LDA) Chairman, M. Ashnikumar said, “As we commemorate World Wetlands Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all, emphasizing the profound significance of wetlands in shaping human wellbeing. This year’s theme, “Wetlands and Human Wellbeing,” invites us to reflect on the intrinsic connection between healthy wetland ecosystems and the prosperity of communities.”

He said that Loktak Lake and its Associated Wetlands stand as invaluable assets, contributing significantly to the wellbeing of the people of Manipur. As the Chairman of Loktak Development Authority, he stated that he is keenly aware of the intricate balance required to maintain these ecosystems for the benefit of both nature and humanity.

Wetlands play a pivotal role in supporting human livelihoods, providing sustenance through fisheries, agriculture, and other ecosystem services.
