The Thadou Students’ Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) have wholeheartedly appreciated the initiative taken up by the education department of Manipur in building up e-Videos Learning Classes under the scheme “Samagra Shiksha, Manipur” which was recently launched by the Education Minister of the State Dr. Thokchom Radheshyam

But taking note of the language of the videos, the association has written a letter to the Minister highlighting their concern and stated, ‘while going through the videos, it has been found that 95% of the medium of teaching are in Manipuri. This has caused great hardship for the hills students in understanding the lesson’.

Moreover, it is felt that this is not a proper approach of a state government that tends to the educational need of varied people of the realm. And, due to language barriers, students of the hill districts would not receive the true benefits of the tutorial videos, the association’s letter highlighted.

TSA opined that the medium of teaching in the online video should be made English in view of justice and equality amongst all the schools in the state while English is a medium of instruction in all the schools of the state.

The association requested for necessary improvement of the existing tutorial videos to be translated into English version in the vast interest of the general public and more particularly to the student fraternity at the earliest possible time.

The association showered their praise for the faculty team, technical team and the department team for coming up with such an innovative package, particularly for the students to raise their knowledge through visual aids.

It echoed that ‘this will enable the student for self-study with proper guidance during this nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic’.
