Meitei Leepun an influential socio-cultural organisation based in Manipur refuted an incident reported in a section of media giving a communal twist and stating that ‘Mandirs, Masjids and Churches hold immense importance in Meitei society with their significance widely recognised in the country.’

While Meitei Leepun undertakes cleanliness drives of religious sites, in the Khurai Telipati area of Imphal, there are two Mandirs- one belonging to the Telis and the other belonging to the Meiteis which is co-existing for ages. Over time, a land dispute has arisen, currently pending in court. Meanwhile, illegal encroachers around these two Mandirs are dumping garbage, using the area as a parking lot, and spoiling the sanctity of the Mandirs.

During a routine visit, the volunteers of the organisation found that a Meitei, a Muslim, and a Bihari person were dumping garbage, building illegally, and using it as a parking lot. Despite complaints to the authorities, no action has been taken causing distress to the local public, and volunteers of Meitei Leepun intervened stated a press release from the organisation.

Taking advantage of the incident reported communally in a media report, the presser from the organisation also stated that some individuals are attempting to create a communal narrative. Further, it stated that spreading false propaganda in the mass media is an act of creating misunderstanding among residents and an attempt to gain vested interests.
