Kenneth I Juster US Ambassador inaugurates Tawang festival 2019

United States Ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster declares the 4-day Tawang Festival open. Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu and Minister of State (IC) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju were also present.

US Ambasador to India Mr. Kenneth I. Juster and Consul General Patti Hoffman were taken for a tour of Tawang Monastery and War memorial by the Chief Minister Khandu.

Kiren Rijiju while sharing some moments of the festival tweeted ‘if you are in Tawang now, you are lucky as the exquisite TAWANG FESTIVAL has begun with much fervor! Arunachal Pradesh has such delightful festivals in different districts which provide a fascinating glimpses of the alluring culture and nature of the pristine State!

Kiren also shared a video of Bihu program and echoed ‘Bihu is mesmerising the people at Tawang Festival which is going on now… North East India is simply amazing!’

Day Two

US Ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster attended the Street Show in the morning of second day of the festival where various cultural dances from Monpa tribe were displayed. The Street Show is the main attraction of the Tawang Festival.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu shared glimpses of today’s Street Show on the second day of the Tawang Festival. The street performance presents different dance forms of Monpa tribe that include Aji Lhamo, Arp Cham, Kengcham, Sawa Cham etc.

After attending the street carnival show at Tawang festival 2019as chief guest Kenneth I Juster US ambassador accompanied by CM Pema Khandu visited Urgelling Gompa at Tawang where the Sixth Dalai Lama was born.

Traditional Monpa tribal style of weaving clothes on display today at Tawang Festival exhibition

The art of making paper has been known to Monpa tribe of Arunachal since time immemorial. Display of paper being prepared from a bark of a tree during the Tawang Festival. Chief Minister Pema Khandu who shared the video is seen keenly observing.
