In just 10 days, 12 million COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered through the COVAX mechanism to at least 19 countries — and 10 more countries are scheduled to receive doses over the weekend. This is an important start to the biggest global vaccination effort ever attempted.

The vaccines are going first to healthcare workers and the most vulnerable. Healthcare workers are putting their lives on the line every day to care for the sick. Keeping them healthy ensures that they can continue to provide lifesaving care for those suffering from COVID-19 and other diseases. An end to the pandemic is possible, but only if we ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to the vaccines. Success is not guaranteed. COVAX, the initiative that is leading the global vaccination effort, still needs billions in funding this year alone.
