SILCHAR : In a decisive move to fast-track one of the Barak Valley’s most critical infrastructure projects, the District Level Land Acquisition and Project Committee (DLLAPC) convened a comprehensive review meeting under the chairmanship of Mridul Yadav, IAS, District Commissioner, Cachar.

The meeting was held on Wednesday at the Old Conference Hall of the DC’s office  with participation from key stakeholders and departmental heads associated with the ongoing widening project of the Silchar–Hailakandi Road.

The session focused particularly on the strategic Birbal Bazar to Silchar Medical College & Hospital stretch, where the road is being upgraded from two lanes to four lanes. The proposed expansion is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between Silchar town and its peripheral regions, bringing long-term benefits to commuters, local businesses, and the general public.

Chairing the meeting, District Commissioner , Mridul Yadav reiterated the administration’s firm commitment to delivering the project within the revised timeline. He emphasised the need for coordinated action among departments and directed all concerned officials to adopt a mission-mode approach.

“This is not merely a road development initiative it is a public commitment. We must deliver without delay, ensuring minimal inconvenience to citizens,” the District Commissioner stated.

During the deliberations, a detailed review of the land acquisition process was undertaken. Departments provided updates on documentation status, compensation-related matters, and the progress of utility shifting. The meeting identified specific procedural bottlenecks that were hampering smooth execution and directed immediate corrective measures.

The District Commissioner called for inter-departmental synergy, especially among the Revenue, Public Works, and Power departments, to ensure that all technical and administrative issues are addressed in a time-bound manner. He also urged officials to maintain open lines of communication with affected landowners and community representatives to build trust and ensure transparency.

Highlighting the growing public concerns due to rising traffic congestion along the Silchar–Hailakandi corridor, the DC stated that every day of delay results in hardship for thousands of commuters. “Our departments must work as one team. The credibility of the district administration depends on our ability to execute this project efficiently, sensitively, and within stipulated timelines,” he added.

The meeting also discussed strategies to conduct field visits for real-time monitoring, setting weekly progress checkpoints, and establishing a robust grievance redressal mechanism for those affected by the acquisition process.

By the end of the session, the committee reached a consensus on streamlining the approval process, accelerating compensation disbursement, and ensuring uninterrupted cooperation at all operational levels. The administration further resolved to hold periodic progress reviews to assess implementation on the ground and to ensure the project remains on track.

It is worthy to note that the widening of the Silchar–Hailakandi Road is regarded as a transformative step towards strengthening regional infrastructure and boosting economic activities along the corridor. Once completed, the improved stretch will facilitate smoother transportation, emergency mobility, and better access to essential services.

The Cachar district administration remains committed to delivering this project with speed, accountability, and sensitivity to public needs. This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
