4th National Javelin Day Observed with Competition and Discussion at DSA Silchar

Silchar: The 4th National Javelin Day was celebrated at DSA Silchar with a javelin competition in the afternoon, followed by a discussion session in the evening. The event kicked off at 2 pm at the Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Stadium, where a total of 22 javelin throwers participated, divided into junior and senior categories for both men and women.

In the men’s category, Abhishek Dubey secured first place, followed by Dibakar Singh in second, and Aminul Islam Laskar in third. In the women’s division, the top three spots were claimed by Hemabati Gaur, Usha Gaur, and Shampi Kariya, respectively.

The competition was judged by Neelkamal Singh, Ashutosh Roy, Nirmalya Nath, Nazrul Alam Laskar, and Satyajit Das.

Later in the evening, a discussion session was held at the Tulsi Das Banik Conference Hall of DSA to mark the significance of Javelin Day. The event commemorated the Olympic achievement of national pride Neeraj Chopra, whose success inspired the observance of August 7 as Javelin Day.

In his keynote address, DSA President Shibabrata Dutta emphasized the need for proper infrastructure along with rigorous training to improve in this discipline. He thanked the acting secretary, minor games secretary, and other members for organising the event in response to the call of the Assam Athletic Association.

The event was conducted by Minor Games Secretary Satyajit Das, and the welcome address was delivered by acting secretary Debashish Shome. Other speakers included Vice President Nandadulal Roy, Joint Secretary (Major) Arijit Gupta, and member Moni Sharma.

Notable attendees included Vice President Ashutosh Roy, Treasurer Buddhadeb Choudhury, AGS (Others) Ajay Kumar Roy, Football Secretary Bikash Das, Indoor Games Secretary Animesh Chanda, Cultural Secretary Pranab Kalyan Dey, as well as ground staff Raju Hajam, Deben Shuklabaidya, and Jaydeep Kar, among other members.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the winners from various categories were awarded medals and certificates by the DSA Silchar officials.
