Silchar: The Greens organised Prabin Milanutsav, a gathering of senior citizens, on Sunday as part of the ongoing Sharad Utsav and Bijoya Sammilani celebrations. The event took place at a marriage hall on Circuit House Road, Silchar.

The programme was attended by Swami Ganatitananda ji Maharaj and Swami Baikunthananda ji Maharaj, along with several eminent senior citizens from the town. Participants shared their life experiences and memories, expressing joy at being part of the celebrations. The meet aimed to honour elderly members of society while fostering respect and togetherness across generations.

Swami Baikunthananda ji Maharaj highlighted the wisdom of ancient Indian traditions. He said that, as Prabhupāda explained, human life was historically divided into four ashrams—Brahmacharya, Grihastha, Vanaprastha, and Sannyasa—each lasting around 25 years, guiding individuals through learning, family life, retirement, and spiritual growth.

He also referred to the Mahabharata, noting how even kings like Dhritarashtra, after decades of rule, chose a life focused on inner fulfillment rather than worldly luxury. “This reflects a uniquely Indian approach to life: passing on wealth and responsibility to the next generation while pursuing personal and spiritual growth,” he added.

Swami Baikunthananda ji Maharaj urged attendees to live with purpose, placing God and the temple at the center of life, and aligning their actions with the country’s spiritual and cultural values. “The ultimate lesson is to know ourselves, discover our true nature, and understand life’s purpose—the growth of the soul,” he said.

Several super seniors, aged 80 and above, were honoured, including Prof. Girban Biswas, Niharendra Purkayastha, Saradindu Dhar, Shyamal Kanti Deb, Basanta Kumar Nag (over 100 years), N.R. Goswami, and Satyendra Kumar Nath. Heavy rains and waterlogging prevented many others from attending.

Silchar DSA president Shibabrata Dutta emphasised the importance of discipline and a healthy lifestyle, urging everyone to stay active and integrate physical exercise and sports into daily life.

The event was also attended by Biswajit Patao, Pranab Paul Choudhury, D. Das Purkayastha, Niloy Dutta, Dipak Deb, among others, and was anchored by Bapi Dutta Roy.
