Drawing strong participation and appreciation from the academic community

Silchar: The second edition of the Sudarshan Gupta Memorial Merit Test Contest 2025 took place on Sunday at Cachar College, Silchar, drawing strong participation and appreciation from the academic community.
The event was jointly organised by the Lions Club of Silchar Valley View and the Central Human Resource Development Society, with full support from the Youths Against Social Evils (YASE) Central Committee. A total of 220 students from different schools across Cachar took part in the contest, competing in two categories — Group A (Classes 7 and 8) and Group B (Classes 9 and 10).
The programme was inaugurated by Apratim Nag, Principal of Cachar College, and Uttam Kumar Saha, advisor to the organising committee and a senior journalist. Both guests praised the organisers for encouraging academic excellence among students and urged participants to continue engaging in such competitions to enhance their knowledge and confidence.

Moumita Gupta, wife of late Sudarshan Gupta, spoke at the event and commended the initiative for honouring her husband’s memory through education-focused efforts.
Chief guest Apratim Nag was felicitated by Biswarupa Bhattacharjee, Principal of Central Senior Secondary School, on behalf of the organisers. The programme was led by Bandita Trivedi Roy, President of Lions Club of Silchar Valley View, with coordination by Prasanta Bhattacharjee. Committee members Minara Laskar, Subir Dey, Sajon Laskar, Ahad Barbhuiya, and Sahabuddin Ahmed were also present.
A dedicated team of invigilators ensured the contest’s smooth conduct. They included Advocate Prothama Dutta Roy, Haran Chandra Das, Debjani Bhattacharjee, Suprabha Rajkumari, Shilpa Paul, Shyamali Bhattacharjee, Saharul Mazumder, Sraboni Das, Monuwara Choudhury, Ritika Das, Sarbani Goswami, Paramita Das, and Pronoy Nag, General Secretary (Organisation) of YASE Central Committee.
The event also received vital support from Shakil Barbhuiya, Shib Sankar Kalowar, and Prosonno Das, whose efforts contributed to the event’s success.
Organisers expressed satisfaction over the strong turnout and announced plans to conduct similar merit tests across different parts of the Barak Valley in the coming months.
