Silchar: Youths Against Social Evils (YASE) organised its Annual Award Distribution Ceremony at Pensioners’ Bhavan in Silchar on Saturday, honouring a veteran writer and poet along with three distinguished teachers from Barak Valley.
The 9th Chhabi Gupta Smriti Puraskar-2026 was conferred on veteran writer and poet Satu Roy of Sribhumi district for his contribution to literature and society.
The 5th Partha Sarathi Chanda Smriti Puraskar was awarded to three renowned teachers from the three districts of Barak Valley. The awardees were Hifjur Rahman, retired Principal of Badarpur Mahadev Higher Secondary School, Sribhumi; Sudip Bhattacharjee, retired teacher of Bir Tikendrajit School, Cachar; and Girija Shankar Dusad, Head Teacher of Dinanath Baikuntha Chanda ME School, Vernerpur, Hailakandi.
The awards were presented by YASE Central Committee President Sanjeev Roy, Advocate Dhrubo Kumar Saha, Dipak Sengupta, Advocate Ajoy Kumar Roy, Uttam Kumar Saha, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Bhavani Bhattacharjee and Faruk Laskar, among others.
YASE General Secretary (Administration) Abdul Ahad Laskar, along with Dipak Baroi, Manna Dutta, Monoj Kalowar, Ahad Barbhuiya, Jawahar Dey Mazumder, Sanjay Das and Ganesh Mondol, assisted in conducting the programme.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Sunil Roy and Dipak Sengupta introduced the gathering to the lives and contributions of late Chhabi Gupta and late Partha Sarathi Chanda respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, the awardees shared their experiences and urged the younger generation to follow the path of truth and values. Satu Roy spoke about the importance of poetry and literature in society and highlighted the differences between the past and present.
The three award-winning teachers thanked YASE for continuing the initiative and encouraged young people to remain committed to honesty and truth. Among those present were Manabendra Bhattacharjee, Samiran Choudhury, Minu Rani Dusad, Sanjay Das, Abu Taher Mazumder and Biplab Dusad, among others.
Programme coordinator and anchor Bandita Trivedi Roy informed that YASE had also successfully organised its Merit Test-2026 for the third consecutive year in memory of late Sudarshan Gupta.
