Thousand Sayantans Urges ACCF to Equalise Blood Bank Fees for Affordable Cancer Care

KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau

Silchar: Social organisation Thousand Sayantans has urged authorities to bring the blood bank rates at the Silchar Cancer Centre (Tata) in line with those of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), highlighting concerns over affordability for poor patients.

In an email (signed by Saumitra Shankar Choudhury) addressed to Dr. Jai Prakash Prasad, Chief Operating Officer of the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF), the organisation requested that all blood bank charges at the cancer centre be made equal to government hospital rates. A copy of the communication has also been sent to the Chief Minister’s Office.

The Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint initiative of the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts, runs as a charitable healthcare network aimed at delivering affordable and quality cancer treatment across the state.

The organisation pointed out that since the Silchar Cancer Centre operates under ACCF, its pricing structure should reflect the same affordability standards as government institutions. It specifically called for aligning the blood bank rates with those of SMCH, stating that this would greatly benefit common people, particularly those from economically weaker sections.

It further appealed to the foundation to take the matter seriously and introduce necessary measures to ensure that the rates are revised in the larger interest of public welfare.
