The Karimganj Hockey Association continues to nurture local talent and promote the sport in Barak Valley

Badarpur: As part of the nationwide celebration of 100 years of Indian hockey, the Karimganj Hockey Association of Sribhumi District organized two exhibition matches on Friday at the playground of Samabay HS School, filling the day with spirited competition and sportsmanship.
In the men’s exhibition match, Karimganj Hockey Association played against Bright Future Institute in a closely contested encounter that ended in a 2–2 draw. The women’s match saw Karimganj Hockey Academy edge past Saint Anthony School, Badarpur, in a dramatic penalty shootout, with Sushmita Malakar scoring the decisive goal.
The event’s chief guest, Amalesh Choudhury, President of the Sribhumi District Sports Association, praised the initiative for promoting hockey in the region. On this occasion, Emad Uddin, Secretary of the Karimganj Hockey Association, presented a copy of his book “Hockey 60” to Choudhury as a token of respect.
Among the other distinguished attendees were retired teacher and social worker Abdur Razzak, Sanjib Bhattacharjee, Principal (in-charge) of Samabay HS School, and former Assam Hockey executive member Taz Uddin.
Guests were warmly welcomed by Salim Ahmed, Director of Karimganj Hockey Academy, along with Joint Secretary Manideepa Kairi, and members Sushmita Malakar, Ramiz Uddin, Ahmed Juhair, Rupa Ghosh, Mabrul Ahmed, and Junaid Ahmed. The matches were officiated by Anwar Hussain and Shibom Deb as umpires.
Adding a special touch to the centenary celebration, officials of the association took the field wearing commemorative jerseys marking the historic milestone. Founded in 2020 at Badarpur, the Karimganj Hockey Association continues to nurture local talent and promote the sport in Barak Valley.
At the end of the event, trophies were presented to all participating teams, concluding a memorable day dedicated to the spirit and legacy of Indian hockey.
