GUWAHATI | Seeking justice for singer Zubeen Garg, his wife Garima Saikia Garg and a delegation of artistes and close associates met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and submitted a seven-point memorandum calling for stronger prosecution and an expeditious trial in the case.

The delegation urged the state government to oppose pending bail applications, challenge bail granted to some of the accused and strengthen the prosecution to ensure that the proceedings are not delayed. The memorandum also sought action in connection with any additional offences that may have emerged during the investigation and regular communication between the government and the singer’s family.

Rahul Gautam Sharma, a close associate of Garg, outlined the seven demands, including a unified prosecution coordination mechanism under the supervision of the Assam Advocate General and the engagement of experienced legal counsel to strengthen the case. “The society has faith in the Indian judiciary, and in order to keep up that trust, we have come to the Assam Governor to request his intervention,” Sharma said.

The delegation also called for measures to protect the prosecution and ensure that the trial proceeds without unnecessary delays or interruptions. Speaking to the media, Garima said the memorandum had been submitted amid ongoing legal proceedings and concerns over bail granted to some of the key accused “We want to know what exactly happened on the last day with an asset as Zubeen Garg.

Why did it happen?” she said. Garima also expressed concern over the scheduled Supreme Court hearings on the bail petitions of Shyamkanu Mahanta on November 4 and Siddharth Sharma on November 6.“If they get released too, then it will pose a challenge not just to the government but also to us, because an accused such as Mahanta had attempted witness tampering while in jail,” she alleged. She further demanded that developments and findings in the case be communicated not only to the family but also to the people of Assam.Responding to questions about separate protests organised by different groups, Garima maintained that the demand for accountability remained united despite differences in the methods adopted by various organisations. “See, we are not divided.

There are certain limitations and I am still with the people. My witness trial has not yet taken place. Everyone knows what is going with me. Please let my witness trial go by peacefully. We all are united. We have to assume a sensitive and responsible role in this,” she said
