Guwahati: Guwahati is set to host one of the largest musical tributes ever organised for the late Zubeen Garg. More than 200 singers from across Assam will come together on Wednesday for a collective homage titled Zubeen-Jonak Kontholoi Xuror Orghya. The event will take place at the Assam Engineering Institute playground in Chandmari.

The organisers have kept the gathering open to everyone without any entry fee. Singer Barnali Kalita, one of the conveners, said the tribute is meant to reflect the affection people hold for Zubeen Garg. She added that the organisers have intentionally avoided any form of VIP culture because the evening is rooted in respect.

The programme will run from 5 to 10 in the evening and will feature around 200 songs originally performed by the iconic singer. The setlist spans devotional, modern, folk, and ethnic genres, showcasing the depth and range of his musical journey.

The convening committee includes Anupam Saikia, Tarali Sharma, Rupam Bhuyan, Nirmali Das, Barnali Kalita, and Subhasna Dutta. Close to 400 singers have already expressed their support for the initiative.

Rehearsals are underway at Jyoti Chitraban in Kahilipara, where eight music directors are coordinating the arrangements. Around 70 to 80 instrumentalists are working alongside more than 200 vocalists to prepare for the tribute.

Organisers say the event is a heartfelt effort by Assam’s music community to honour a man whose voice shaped generations.
