Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing a major trade agreement between India and the United States. The deal brings down tariffs on “Made in India” products to 18 percent.

In a post on X, Sarma called the agreement a big milestone for India. He said it reflects Prime Minister Modi’s strong leadership and growing influence in global trade. According to him, the deal will help Indian youth, farmers and micro, small and medium enterprises by opening up global markets.

The Chief Minister said the agreement would act as a force multiplier for India–US ties. He pointed to closer cooperation between the two democracies under Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump.

Prime Minister Modi announced the tariff cut on Monday after a conversation with President Trump. In his post on X, Modi welcomed the move and said it would benefit Indian products and create new economic opportunities. He added that stronger cooperation between the two large democracies would support global growth and stability.

The trade agreement is expected to improve access for Indian goods in the US market and further strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
