Says Political Switches ‘Normal’ Ahead of Polls

Guwahati: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday downplayed the resignation of former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Bhupen Borah from the party, saying that such political shifts are “very normal” in Indian politics, especially in the run up to elections.
Speaking during her visit to Guwahati to review preparations for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the Congress general secretary maintained that the development would not weaken the party’s prospects in the state.
She asserted that the Indian National Congress continues to have strong leadership in Assam and remains united despite recent changes.
“Party leaders and workers will fight together to win the upcoming polls,” she said, expressing confidence in the party’s organisational strength.
Her remarks come as the Congress intensifies groundwork for the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, with senior leaders stepping up outreach and mobilisation efforts across the state.
