Intensify Assam Poll Campaign

GUWAHATI : Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Assam on March 27 to spearhead the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with a series of high-profile engagements planned across the state.
Shah will land in Guwahati in the evening and participate in a roadshow in support of BJP’s Guwahati Central candidate Vijay Gupta. The roadshow is scheduled to begin from Arya Vidyapeeth Playground and traverse key areas of the constituency, aiming to mobilise voter support in one of the state’s most prominent urban seats. He is also expected to meet party office bearers later in the day.
On March 29, Shah will continue his campaign trail in upper Assam, addressing a rally for minister Ashok Singhal at the Dhekiajuli Tea Estate football field in Sonitpur district. He will then proceed to Tihu in Nalbari district, where he is slated to campaign for senior minister Chandramohan Patowary at the Chamata Higher Secondary School field, concluding his two-day visit.
The Union minister is also scheduled to return to the state on April 2 to campaign in the Barak Valley region. During that visit, he will address rallies in support of minister Krishnendu Paul in Sribhumi district and former MP Rajdeep Roy in Silchar.
Polling for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled for April 9, with the counting of votes set for May 4.
