Silchar: A politically significant claim has drawn attention in Assam’s election scene after noted economist Parakala Prabhakar publicly extended support to Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Kunki Chowdhury in the Guwahati Central constituency.

Verification confirms that Prabhakar did make a public appeal in favour of Chowdhury, describing her as a capable, educated and promising leader. He also urged voters to back her, projecting her as a credible alternative voice in the constituency.

However, the development has triggered political debate due to Prabhakar’s personal association with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Experts have clarified that his remarks were made in a personal capacity as an economist and public commentator, and do not reflect the official stand of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Central Government.

Despite the clarification, the statement has added a layer of political intrigue, with some observers speculating about possible discord, though no official response has come from the BJP or the government so far.

In the ongoing election climate, such individual endorsements are expected to shape voter perception, particularly among urban and educated sections in a closely contested seat like Guwahati Central, where narratives and personal credibility often play a decisive role.
