Guwahati: Gauhati High Court on April 21 heard a batch of public interest litigations seeking directions to restrain Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from allegedly making hate speeches targeting minority communities in the state.

The matter was taken up by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury. During the hearing, the court considered submissions related to the allegations and the responses filed so far.

The bench granted the respondents an additional four weeks to file their replies in the matter. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for May 28.

The PILs seek judicial intervention to curb alleged inflammatory remarks and ensure adherence to legal provisions governing hate speech. The case is expected to draw continued attention as it progresses.
