Imphal: A sit-in protest was held at Sinakeithei village in Manipur on Tuesday, with residents voicing strong concern over ongoing firing allegedly by suspected Kuki militants in the area.

The protest, organised by the Sinakeithei Shanao Long, drew villagers who expressed anguish over repeated incidents involving the use of sophisticated weapons and explosives. They said the situation has disrupted normal life for nearly two months, effectively turning the area into a conflict zone.

Demonstrators raised slogans such as “Stop firing,” “Relocate SoO camps from Naga hill,” “Withdraw SoO,” and “Stop terrorising unarmed civilians.” They demanded the relocation of Suspension of Operations (SoO) camps and called for action against alleged militant bunkers in the Lungter hill range, which they claim violate existing SoO agreements.

Speaking during the protest, a local teacher highlighted the impact of the violence on children. He said fear and anxiety have deeply affected students, disrupting their education and daily routines, and eroding their sense of safety.

The protesters urged the government to take immediate and proactive measures to restore peace and ensure security in the region.
