New Delhi: The cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination has triggered widespread uncertainty among more than 22 lakh medical aspirants and their families, with concerns growing over the fresh examination schedule, admit cards, examination centres and counselling timelines.
The National Testing Agency scrapped the May 3 examination following allegations of irregularities linked to the test. The agency said the decision was taken in the interest of maintaining transparency and credibility in the national examination system.
Investigations into the alleged paper leak and related irregularities are currently being carried out by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) and other agencies. The Centre has also decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive probe.
The NTA has announced that the examination will be re-conducted on fresh dates to be notified separately. Officials said existing registration details and candidature data will remain valid for the re-examination, and no fresh application process will be required.
The development has sparked anxiety among students preparing for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country, with many demanding clarity on the revised examination and admission process.
