Imphal : Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on May 20 said that disarming people possessing firearms across the state was an urgent necessity amid the continuing tense situation in several areas of Manipur.

According to an official statement, the Chief Minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Tangkhul Naga community of Sinakeithei village in Ukhrul district.

During the meeting, the delegation urged the state government to deploy adequate police forces in the village to ensure the safety and security of residents in view of the prevailing tension in the area.

The residents also demanded enhanced protection measures, sufficient manpower at the Sinakeithei police station, and proper functioning of the Sub-Divisional Collector (SDC) offices in Sinakeithei.

Manipur has been witnessing ethnic tensions and security challenges over the past several months, prompting repeated appeals for stronger law enforcement and restoration of normal administrative functioning in affected areas.
