Silchar: Assam University, Silchar has added another distinguished name to its list of alumni, with Shri Anandamoy Barman being appointed as a Minister of State (MoS) in the newly formed West Bengal government.

Barman, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator representing the Matigara-Naxalbari (SC) Assembly constituency, has been inducted into the council of ministers as part of the new state ministry. He also continues to serve as the president of the BJP’s Siliguri organisational district.

The appointment has drawn attention in academic circles, particularly at Assam University, where Barman completed his Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in 2013. Party leaders and associates have often credited his educational background for shaping his policy-oriented approach to governance and public service.

Before joining active politics, Barman worked as an assistant teacher at a government-aided high school, dedicating several years to the field of education. His transition from teaching to public life has been marked by a strong focus on social and developmental issues.

Apart from his M.Ed. from Assam University, Barman possesses a diverse academic profile. He earned a Master of Arts in Bengali from University of North Bengal in 2005 and later completed a Master of Arts in Political Science from Netaji Subhas Open University in 2020.

His elevation to the ministerial rank is being viewed as a significant milestone in his political career and a matter of pride for the academic institutions that contributed to his educational journey. The development has also brought recognition to Assam University, Silchar, highlighting the achievements of its alumni in public life and governance.
