Silchar Roads Riddled with Potholes, Traffic Congestion Persists
KRC TIMES Barak Valley Bureau
Silchar: With the onset of the monsoon, residents of Silchar are once again grappling with deteriorating road conditions, waterlogged potholes, and persistent traffic congestion across the town. Commuters and pedestrians alike are facing daily hardships as several roads have become riddled with potholes, many of which remain submerged under rainwater, posing serious risks to motorists.
Despite the recurring nature of the problem, timely repair and maintenance work have largely remained absent. As a result, several stretches of road have deteriorated further, turning into virtual obstacle courses and slowing traffic movement throughout the day. Traffic jams have become a common sight from morning until late at night, adding to the woes of residents.
Questions are being raised over what many describe as administrative and political apathy towards the issue. Residents have expressed disappointment over the lack of visible action by the authorities, while opposition parties have also come under criticism for not mounting a stronger protest against the worsening civic conditions.
Local social activists Rasraj Das and Sadhan Purkayastha voiced concern over the situation, warning that the condition of the roads is likely to deteriorate further if immediate steps are not taken. They noted that similar problems have persisted year after year and cautioned that the coming monsoon seasons could bring even greater difficulties unless long-term solutions are implemented.
The activists have demanded urgent cleaning of clogged drains, immediate repair of damaged roads, and a comprehensive infrastructure plan to address Silchar’s recurring monsoon-related challenges. They urged the authorities to act swiftly before the situation worsens and causes further inconvenience to the public.
