Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh described the honours as a moment of immense pride for the state

Imphal : Three servicemen from Manipur have been decorated with prestigious gallantry awards, including two Vir Chakras and a Shaurya Chakra, in recognition of their exceptional courage and distinguished service to the nation.
The honours were conferred during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-I) held in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards to military and security personnel for acts of bravery and sacrifice.
Among the awardees was Sub-Inspector (CT/GD) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), a native of Yairipok Yambem in Imphal East district, who was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The honour was received on his behalf by his parents, Chingakham Ibemhal Devi and Chingakham Bonbihari Singh.
Another recipient of the Vir Chakra was Rizwan Malik, a Squadron Leader from Keikhu in Imphal East district. He was recognised for displaying exceptional bravery and distinguished service during Operation Sindoor.
Meanwhile, Leishangthem Deepak Singh, a Major with 11 Para (Special Forces), was conferred the Shaurya Chakra for demonstrating outstanding courage, professionalism and dedication while carrying out his duties.
Congratulating the awardees, Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh described the honours as a moment of immense pride for the state. He said the awards reflected the courage, discipline and commitment that Manipur’s servicemen have consistently displayed in safeguarding the nation.
The Chief Minister noted that Sub-Inspector Deepak Chingakham made the ultimate sacrifice in service of the country, while Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik and Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh exemplified exceptional valour and unwavering devotion to duty.
“Their achievements embody the highest traditions of service to the nation and serve as an inspiration to future generations,” Singh said.
He added that the contributions of the three decorated personnel towards protecting India’s sovereignty and integrity further strengthened Manipur’s longstanding legacy of producing brave and dedicated defenders of the nation.
Saluting their service and sacrifice, the Chief Minister said the achievements of the awardees had brought honour not only to Manipur but also to the country as a whole.
