Guwahati: Piyansu Dugar, a student and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer of The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), was felicitated by the State-of-the-Art Model Blood Centre of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) during the observance of World Blood Donor Day 2026 on Sunday.
The recognition was conferred in appreciation of Dugar’s contribution to voluntary blood donation and his efforts in mobilising donors and organising blood donation camps at RGU. He donated blood three times during the financial year 2025-26.

The programme was attended by several distinguished guests, including Prof. Achyut Baishya, Principal and Chief Superintendent of GMCH; Prof. Devajit Choudhury, Superintendent of GMCH; Dr. Shashi Mehar, Inspector General of the CRPF Composite Hospital, Guwahati; and Prof. Dipankar Baruah, In-charge of the State-of-the-Art Model Blood Centre, GMCH.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Achyut Baishya highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation, stating, “Rokto daan, mohan daan,” while expressing gratitude to blood donors for their invaluable service to society.
Prof. Devajit Choudhury emphasised the need for collective action to ensure a sufficient and safe blood supply. “Strong collaborative efforts of medical professionals, civil society organisations and academia are a sure way to ensure a safe blood-sufficient society,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Victor Narzary, NSS Programme Coordinator of RGU, said that The Assam Royal Global University has undertaken a mission to sensitise students and promote voluntary non-remunerated blood donation among the youth.
Accepting the honour, Piyansu Dugar dedicated the recognition to the university’s NSS team. “This award is for the entire RGU NSS Cell. The Assam Royal Global University has given me an excellent platform to carry forward this noble activity,” he said.
The felicitation reflects RGU’s continued commitment to youth-led community service, public health awareness and the promotion of a sustainable culture of voluntary blood donation across Assam and the North-East region.
