Silchar: The Department of Bengali at Assam University will organise a two-day international seminar titled “Post-Independence India: Multidimensional Readings of Society, Literature and Culture” (স্বাধীনতা-উত্তর ভারতের সমাজ, সাহিত্য ও সংস্কৃতির বহুমাত্রিক পাঠ) on August 12 and 13, 2026.
The seminar aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for academicians, researchers, policymakers, and cultural practitioners from India and abroad to engage in critical discussions on the social, literary, and cultural transformations that have shaped India since Independence in 1947.

According to the organisers, the seminar will explore a wide range of themes, including nationalism, social justice, gender, caste, regional identities, globalisation, the emergence of digital society, and the unique cultural dynamics of North-East India.
The event will be conducted in a hybrid mode, enabling participants to attend either in person or online. Research papers are invited in Bengali, Assamese, Hindi, and English. Organisers have also announced that selected papers will be considered for publication in an edited volume carrying an ISBN.
The last date for submission of abstracts is July 25, 2026, while acceptance notifications will be issued on July 27, 2026. Interested participants may submit their abstracts via email at hodbengali.aus@gmail.com.
The seminar is expected to bring together scholars and researchers from diverse disciplines, fostering meaningful dialogue on the evolving realities of post-Independence India and its cultural narratives.
