Awareness Drives on International Day Against Drug Abuse

Chandel: Chandel Police on Friday observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organising a bike rally and a series of awareness programmes across the district to promote public participation in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The district-wide campaign was conducted under the global theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, and Innovative Responses,” under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Tyagi, IPS.
The programme began with a bike rally flagged off by SP Tyagi from the District Sports Complex, Chandel. The rally passed through Chandel Christian and Pallel along NH-102C before concluding at the District Headquarters. Police officers, personnel and local residents took part in the rally, with the Superintendent of Police leading the procession on his motorcycle.

Following the rally, awareness programmes were held simultaneously at Chandel Headquarters and Chakpikarong Sub-Division.
At Chandel Headquarters, the event was organised jointly with the Maha Area Chiefs’ Association (MACA) at the Town Hall in Panchai. Around 200 people, including community leaders, youth and members of the public, attended the programme and pledged to strengthen efforts against drug abuse through awareness, prevention and community cooperation.
A parallel awareness programme was also organised at Chakpikarong Sub-Division in collaboration with the Anal Naga Chiefs’ Association and Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (ALT), Chakpikarong. The programme highlighted the importance of grassroots participation and community support in tackling substance abuse.
The observance stressed the need for stronger collaboration among law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions and civil society to address the challenges of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Chandel Police reiterated its commitment to building a drug-free society and ensuring a safer future for the district’s youth.
