According to the preliminary investigation, the scrap shop was allegedly being used not only for dealing in stolen goods but also as a centre for dismantling stolen motorcycles. Police suspect that motorcycles stolen from different parts of Silchar were brought to the shop, where they were stripped into individual components. The parts were then allegedly sold separately in the market, making it difficult for investigators to identify and trace the original vehicles.
During the raid, police recovered two motorcycles, various motorcycle spare parts, three cutting machines, one charging machine, several tyres, and other valuable tools and equipment believed to have been used in the operation.
Police are currently questioning the two arrested persons and have launched further investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged racket. More arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
The successful operation is being seen as a significant step in the ongoing efforts of the Silchar Sadar Police to curb motorcycle theft and dismantle organised crime networks operating in the city.
