Churachandpur: The body of a 33-year-old man who had gone missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Manipur’s Churachandpur district was recovered on Saturday, bringing a two-day search operation to an end, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Thangjohnson, a resident of New Lamka Vengnuam South.

According to officials, the incident took place on Thursday evening when Thangjohnson was attempting to retrieve construction materials that had been washed away by the strong current of the swollen Lanva River during embankment construction work. He was swept away by the floodwaters and went missing.

Search and rescue teams launched an extensive operation on Friday morning to locate him. After nearly two days of efforts, his body was recovered on Saturday. Officials said the recovery marks the end of the search operation. The incident highlights the dangers posed by swollen rivers and strong currents during the ongoing monsoon season in the region.
