Imphal | Thirty-six athletes and three coaches from Manipur are part of the Indian contingent for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Saturday.

The Chief Minister congratulated the sportspersons and wished them success at the continental multi-sport event, which began on Saturday and will continue till October 4. According to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, athletes from Manipur will represent India in 10 disciplines – sepaktakraw, rowing, cycling, fencing, canoeing and kayaking, boxing, weightlifting, wushu, judo and hockey.

Of the 36 athletes, 12 will compete in sepaktakraw, while one each will represent India in rowing, boxing and judo.Cycling, fencing, weightlifting and wushu have three athletes each from the state, while six athletes will compete in canoeing and kayaking. Three players from Manipur are also part of the Indian hockey contingent.

Khemchand Singh urged the athletes to compete with confidence, discipline and determination and give their best in their respective events. The Chief Minister also extended his best wishes to all the sportspersons and coaches from the state representing India at the Games.
