Silchar: Assam University, Silchar, has secured representation in the reconstituted State Level Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) of Assam, with Professor Parthankar Choudhury of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences appointed as a member.

Professor Choudhury has extensive expertise in ecology and conservation and has contributed significantly to the study of the rich flora and fauna of the Barak Valley.

The SEAC, chaired by Jatindra Sarma, IFS (Retd), will assist the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) in examining environmental matters and making recommendations on projects that may have environmental impacts.

The committee has been constituted by the Assam Government following a notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on October 6, 2026.
