TURA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has inducted former Meghalaya transport minister Pa Ismail R. Marak into its ranks as part of its efforts to expand its organisational presence in the Garo Hills region.

Marak joined the party in Tura on Saturday in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including state president Rikman G. Momin, Meghalaya in-charge Kanad Purkayastha and co-in-charge Numal Momin.

Marak, a former Rongram MLA, was elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2008. He later served as a Member of the District Council (MDC) from Asanang in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council in 2015.

Following his induction, Marak has also been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing future inductions into the party. His role is expected to involve reaching out to political leaders and strengthening the BJP’s organisational network in the region.

The induction comes as the BJP seeks to broaden its presence in Meghalaya, where regional political parties continue to play an important role. Marak’s entry adds a former legislator and district council member to the party’s political base in the Garo Hills.
