IMPHAL: Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has accused certain sections of the BJP’s state leadership of conspiring with the Congress to remove him from the Chief Minister’s post in February 2025. In an exclusive interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), Biren Singh questioned why violence continued in Manipur even after his resignation, raising concerns over the handling of the prolonged crisis in the state.
He also urged the BJP government led by Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh to take steps to rebuild public confidence ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Biren Singh called for the continuation of anti-drug operations, strict action against poppy cultivation and biometric identification of suspected illegal immigrants. He stressed the need to maintain the campaign against drugs and illegal activities in the state.
Expressing confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, the former Chief Minister said he hoped the party would return to power in the next Assembly elections. He also claimed that people wanted to see him back as Chief Minister. His remarks have brought renewed attention to the political developments within the BJP in Manipur and the challenges facing the state government ahead of the next Assembly polls.
