Guwahati |  Guwahati is set to get three new hotels under a multi-hotel operating agreement signed between Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), marking a proposed expansion of hospitality infrastructure around the city’s aviation hub.

The agreement covers the development of eight hotels across four Indian cities – Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati – with a combined capacity of more than 2,000 rooms. The properties will operate under IHCL’s Taj, Gateway, Vivanta and Ginger brands.

Under the proposed arrangement, Guwahati will have three hotels under the Taj, Gateway and Ginger brands, catering to business travellers, tourists and transit passengers. The initiative forms part of Adani Airports’ broader plan to develop integrated Airport City destinations that combine hospitality, retail, commercial, lifestyle and leisure facilities around major aviation hubs.

?20,000-crore Airport City investment planned

In the first phase, Adani Airport City Limited plans to invest more than ?20,000 crore to develop approximately 22 million square feet of infrastructure across six locations: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati. The proposed developments are expected to integrate hotels with commercial spaces and other facilities, creating destinations designed to serve travellers as well as businesses operating around airports.

Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said the partnership would help strengthen hospitality infrastructure around key airport cities and support regional economic growth. Puneet Chhatwal, managing director and chief executive officer of IHCL, said airport-linked developments were emerging as important commercial and hospitality hubs amid the expansion of India’s aviation and tourism sectors.

Boost to Guwahati’s hospitality sector

The proposed hotels are expected to offer accommodation, dining, meeting and event facilities, wellness services and recreational amenities. For Guwahati, the expansion could add capacity across different segments of the hospitality market, from premium accommodation to more accessible lodging options.

As a major gateway to the Northeast, the city serves business travellers, tourists and passengers connecting to other destinations across the region. The planned hotel developments are expected to complement the growth of aviation-linked commercial infrastructure and tourism.

However, the announcement did not specify the construction timelines or expected opening dates for the three Guwahati properties.
