SILCHAR: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has suspended Sajal Acharjee from the post of President of the Silchar District Congress Committee in Assam. The decision was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, according to a press release issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Saturday, November 7.

The party leadership has also approved the appointment of Arun Dutta Mazumdar as the Interim President of the Silchar District Congress Committee.
The action comes amid allegations of an attempt to illegally sell land belonging to the Congress office. However, the AICC press release did not specify the grounds for the suspension.
Reacting to the decision, Congress leader Abhijit Paul expressed gratitude to AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Assam Bhupesh Baghel and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi for taking disciplinary action against Acharjee.
Paul alleged that Acharjee had attempted to illegally sell the party office land. He appreciated the intervention of the senior party leadership, stating that the action would help protect Congress property.
