AGARTALA : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday expressed confidence that the BJP would secure victory in all 21 urban local bodies in the upcoming civic elections, declaring that the party was aiming for a bigger mandate this time.
Saha said the BJP had won 20 of the 21 urban local bodies in the previous elections and was confident of achieving a clean sweep this time. “We had won 20 out of 21 urban local bodies last time. This time, we will win all 21 and form our governments in all of them,” the Chief Minister said.
He also called upon party leaders and workers to work towards securing a bigger victory margin, stressing that the BJP was looking for a stronger mandate from voters. Saha said the party would seek votes on the basis of the development initiatives and achievements of the state government.
Highlighting the government’s development agenda, he said several projects had been undertaken across both urban and rural areas. However, with the upcoming polls focused on urban local bodies, the BJP would primarily highlight its work in towns and cities.
“We have been carrying out extensive development work in urban areas as well as in villages. However, since this is an urban election, we are reaching out to people with our development agenda and the work we have undertaken in towns and cities,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks signal the BJP’s confidence ahead of the civic elections, with the party seeking to retain its stronghold across Tripura’s urban local bodies while improving on its previous electoral performance.
