Silchar: Three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Assam’s Cachar district after police intercepted them during a routine checking operation at the Digar Khal naka checkpoint under the Gumrah area.

The arrested persons have been identified as Reena Akhtar, Mohammad Awal and Mohammad Harun. Police said the trio had allegedly entered India illegally in 2012 and had been living in different parts of the country for several years.

According to investigators, the three recently travelled from Bengaluru to Badarpur on board the Humsafar Express. They were allegedly planning to return to Bangladesh through the Umkiang border route in Meghalaya with the help of a broker.

Police sources said the suspects were detained during naka checking and later taken into custody for further interrogation. Authorities are now investigating the network involved in facilitating illegal cross-border movement. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
